What will I need to get started to create a website?

All we need from you to get started is to fill out our form so we can figure out what you do and what you actually expect from a website (for example, reaching new clients, actively promoting your business or just having a business card online).

If you decide to have your website built by us, we will get together for a short consultation to discuss everything in detail.

If you choose to supply us with content yourself, then we will need the text, images and videos for the website from you before we start work. However, you can always change the content in one of the possible revisions.

I have social networks, why do I need a website?

While it’s important for businesses to have trusted social media accounts, they are not a substitute for their own websites.

Why?

First, and most importantly, you don’t own your social media profiles. If Facebook decides to shut down your profile or LinkedIn goes out of business, those profiles no longer belong to you. When you have a self-hosted website, it’s yours to do with as you please.

Second, it’s hard to take seriously a company that doesn’t have a website and only has social media profiles. Why don’t they have a website? Maybe they are a backyard business, maybe they are a new business with no experience, maybe they don’t want to invest in a website for their business? Not having a website at all speaks volumes about the credibility of your business.

In addition, social media profiles are hard to use – if we create a website for you, your visitors will easily know who you are, what you do and how to contact you… which is hard to achieve with a social media profile.

What is a self-hosted website and what are its advantages over WIX, Canva, etc.?

A custom website is one that you host on your chosen server (e.g. Czech-Hosting, Bluehost, etc.) so that your website can be viewed online.

This means that you own your website, you can move it freely from one host to another if necessary, and you are not limited in the functionality of your website.

On the other hand…

Web platforms such as WIX, Squarespace and GoDaddy, among others, advertise quick and easy websites that you can build yourself. The downside of these platforms that they don’t advertise is that once you create a website with them, your website is stuck on their hosting server.

Why is this important to understand?

Not having your own website means that you don’t have control over your own website. Yes, you can choose what phone number is displayed and add your own images. But let’s say there’s a security breach and you want to change hosts or their platform goes down… you lose your website.

Not only is there a security and ownership issue, but these websites also usually have limited functionality. You have a nice website that you’ve created yourself, but does it work for your business the way a professional website should?

The beauty about the custom designed WordPress.org websites we provide at D.A.M. Webdesign, is that you are using an open source CMS. There are no restrictions on functionality, you own the site and can move it freely between hosts if needed.

Our advice is… don’t underestimate the importance of owning and controlling your own website. A good website is an asset to your business and should be treated as such.

Why should I hire a professional web designer instead of creating a website myself?

There are two main answers to this question.

Firstly, there is a lot of marketing and design knowledge that goes into the websites we design, making your website an asset, a 24-hour salesperson that works for your business. If you design a website yourself, you won’t have access to much of this knowledge and experience and your website will become a business card rather than an asset.

Secondly, hiring a professional website designer will save you a lot of time that you can use to do what you do best in your business. Why learn a new skill when you can hire us to create a professional website for you in a fraction of the time?

How much does a website cost?

The price of the website depends on how extensive you want it to be. The price for a website can range from a few thousand to tens of thousands of crowns depending on your requirements.

We always clarify exactly how much it will cost you and what the goal will be before the project begins. We have no skyte fees.

How long will it take to create a website?

Once we receive your order and all the details about your business and your idea of what your website should look like, your website will be ready for review within 3 weeks.

Can you help me with the content of my website?

If you wish, I will. All we need from you is details about your business and we will write all the content for your website. At the time of purchase you will be provided with an online form that you can use to send us your information and images.

Otherwise, you can send us all the materials (texts, images, videos) and we will insert them on the site.

Will I see my website before it is finished?

We’ll send you updates on the progress of your website, but it won’t be available for viewing until it’s completely finished and ready to be viewed. Of course, after the demonstration you will have the opportunity to request that the site be modified to your specifications – see below.

What if I want to change the design after the site is finished?

Once your website is complete, we will notify you and give you the opportunity to test and review the website.

You then have 2 rounds of content and design revisions. Extended revisions outside this range will be charged at our hourly rate.

Can I make changes to my website myself even if I don't have the technical knowledge?

Yes, I am! Your website will be designed for you and will not need to be modified, however as your business changes over time you may find that you need to make changes such as adding another service, changing contact details or adjusting team members. Your website will be built using the WordPress.org CMS and we will provide training instructions so you can make changes to your website at any time.

If you build me a website, do I have to work with you forever?

No! We create websites on the open-source WordPress platform using the Elementor plugin, which means that anyone can build on our work (whether a professional web designer or yourself).

Of course, we would still be happy if you contact us again with further requests.
